Test field

We evaluate a wide range of varieties of species from different origins in our test field, in order to chose the varieties most closely adapted to market demands, maximising parameters such as early maturity, stature and ease of cultivation.

Another fundamental task carried out in the test field is the genetic improvement project for Pelargonium zonale, from the Pelargonium peltatum and the Pelargonium grandiflorum. In 1997, Grup Roig and IRTA (Instituto de Investigación y Tecnología Agroalimentaria – Institute of Agro-food Research and Technology) of the Autonomous Government (Generalitat) of de Catalonia began on this project together: There are currently already four series of geranium: Costa Brava, Dark Costa Brava, Costa Daurada and Costa Barcelona, comprising more than 50 varieties in the catalogue, especially adapted to Mediterranean weather and markets.
